Steve Weiss is an award winning anchor, reporter and producer of local and network television news, documentary and sports programming. Weiss has worked as a program producer, host, and analyst for ESPN, TNN, FOX Prime Sports, Outdoor Channel and the Outdoor Life Network. He was a regular contributor to the ESPN motorsports highlight program "SpeedWeek".
Weiss has appeared as a national news correspondent on the PBS program “World Business Review.” Prior to that, he was a news and sports reporter, anchor and producer for local television stations in Denver, Las Vegas, Shreveport, La., and Pocatello, Id. He has won more than 30 national and regional awards for news, sports and marketing presentations including Associated Press, United Press International, National Press Photographer’s Association, BEA, PRSA, BMA and Telly Awards recognizing excellence in corporate and cable television production.
Weiss has reported on the NFL, NBA, PGA, boxing, tennis, NASCAR, Indy, Formula One, NHRA, Pikes Peak Hill Climbs, the Bonneville Salt Flats Land Speed time trials and the Baja 1000. He and off-road icon Ivan “Ironman” Stewart released a feature-length DVD in 2005, “Racing in Baja and Beyond.” This production resulted in a Telly Award and was named the “Xtremey Awards” Off-Road DVD/Video of the year.
He recently established University Documentary Productions as a production resource and partner to Colorado State University in the development of documentary projects for Rocky Mountain PBS and other broadcast and online program providers. He has also reported and produced segments for Rocky Mountain PBS's "Arts District" show.
Weiss is a fulltime instructor and the Special Projects Coordinator in the Department of Journalism and Media Communication at Colorado State University, teaching classes in video production, news and scriptwriting, corporate multimedia production and professional communication. He is the director of the RAM Productions team, a group of students producing live sports, music and arts television programs at CSU. He is also the academic adviser for the CSU Music, Stage and Sports Production Interdisciplinary Minor.
